Kryptonite is that thing that makes someone weak. It is their Achilles heel. A·chil·les heel is defined as a weakness or vulnerable point. Other words associated with Achilles heal is: weak spot; weak point; weakness; vulnerable spot; soft underbelly; shortcoming; failing; imperfection; flaw; defect; deficiency; fault; foible; chink in one’s armor; downfall; undoing; and nemesis.
These are all words that are familiar and that everyone can relate to because we all have had failings. Have fallen short. Have been overtaken in a fault. We have flaws and that one nemesis or enemy that we know is out to get us. That enemy that is waiting to take us down. The Bible says that sin is crouching at the door (Gen 4:7). Every day we wake up sin is there to control us, but God said that we must subdue it.
However, many of us are like Samson. We know that there are things that we are commanded to avoid. That kryptonite. That nemesis. That Achilles heel. But we continue to yield to the temptation even though there is a way of escape. We touch the dead things and the forbidden things. We continue to associate with those that God has warned us not to associate with until eventually we find ourselves laying in the lap of the enemy. One thing is for certain the devil is subtle and persistent. He will not stop until he has stripped you of your dignity and your very salvation.
Paul asked a question: shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Paul then answered his own question. God forbid. (Romans 6:1-2)
I ask this question: What is your kryptonite?
