During His final night, Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane (oil press). “If it be possible let this cup pass from Me.” He prayed this 3 times until after the 3rd time He said, “Nevertheless not my will but thine will be done.” Shortly thereafter, Judas betrayed Him; Jesus is captured, and taken to trial. A trial that was illegal. Why? There are too many to list, but a few are as follows: the trial was held at night; no two witnesses agreed; the Sanhedrin was only allowed to try civil & religious matters not cases involving capital punishment; & the Sanhedrin lied. They accused Jesus of blasphemy but when they took Him before Pilate, they accused Him of sedition. Jesus was taken before Pilate who sent Him before Herod who sent Him back to Pilate. Pilate didn’t want to punish Him and instead tried to trade Jesus for Barrabas thinking that they would take Jesus, but they wanted Barrabas. Jesus was nailed to the cross at 9:00 am. These are the words that He said as He was dying for our sins: “Father forgive them for they know not what they do”; “Today you shall be with me in paradise”; “Son behold thy mother”; “My God, why hast thou forsaken me”; “It is finished”; and “Father into thy hands I commit my spirit”. At noon, darkness came upon the earth. Then our Savior died 3 hours later. The earth quaked and the veil in the Holy of Holies was rent in two. Thus fulfilling the prophetic scriptures in Isaiah 53. #biblesstudymoments #holyweek
