Hosanna in the Highest

The crowds hailed Him as initiator of the messianic kingdom this was in fulfillment of Ps 118:24-26. Crying “Hosanna!!”

As we go through this week that we call “Holy Week” which culminates with the death burial and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ let’s take a look at the events of His finally. I’m two days late but let’s start with Palm Sunday

This is the day that Jesus entered Bethany. Every act of Jesus in His final week was a conscious act. It was a fulfillment of a divine plan to which the OT bore witness. Everything that’s in the OT is in the NT & everything that’s in the NT is in the OT.

Jesus sent the disciples ahead of Him to get a colt fulfilling Zechariah 9:9-13. His riding the colt meant that the colt was carrying the Prince of Peace. A colt that has never been ridden before was designated in the OT for holy purposes as seen in Num 19:2 Deut 21:13 & 1 Sam 6:7.

Three things happened on that Sunday:

1. The crowds hailed Him as the initiator of the messianic kingdom this fulfilled Ps 118:24-26. Crying “Hosanna!!” Which we usually see as a shout of praise but it means save now which is a cry of distress.

2. Even though everyone was rejoicing around Him, Jesus lamented over the city of Jerusalem crying “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.” (Matt 23:27)

3. Jesus also performed miracles that day in the temple. He also had discourse with the Pharisees and the teachers of the law in Matt 23 who criticized Him calling them “hypocrites “ “blind guides” “blind fools” “full of dead men’s bones” and “snakes and vipers “. All in fulfillment of Ps 8:2

These were the events of Palm Sunday
